How to Approach a Frontend System Design InterviewIntermediateThe single biggest failure mode in a frontend system design round isn't a wrong answer — it's jumping into implementation before the problem is even scoped. This lesson is the structure every other lesson in this track hangs off of.13 min · 0/3 questions correct
Clarifying Requirements and Scoping the ProblemIntermediateThe first step of the interview framework deserves its own lesson: what "clarifying requirements" concretely means for a frontend prompt, and why naming what's out of scope is as important as naming what's in.12 min · 0/3 questions correct
Back-of-Envelope Estimation for Frontend SystemsBeginnerRough scale estimation isn't about precision — it's a sanity check that tells you which class of solution is even appropriate, and a design that doesn't change no matter the estimated scale is the real interview weakness.12 min · 0/3 questions correct
Component Architecture at ScaleBeginnerBefore any data model or API gets discussed, most frontend system design prompts expect a component tree sketched on the whiteboard — and where you draw the boundaries is itself the design decision being graded.13 min · 0/3 questions correct
API Design Tradeoffs for a Frontend ClientIntermediateChoosing REST or GraphQL is a mechanics question this track assumes you already know the answer to. The interview question is different: given an API, what tradeoffs is a frontend team actually designing around?13 min · 0/3 questions correct
Client-Side State Architecture for Large AppsIntermediateBefore picking a state library, a strong system design answer classifies the state itself — local, shared, or server-owned each have genuinely different needs, and conflating them is where most real designs go wrong.13 min · 0/3 questions correct
Designing a Client-Side CacheIntermediateHTTP caching decides whether the browser re-downloads a response. Application-level cache design decides something different — what a fetched value means, when it's stale, and what a mutation should invalidate.14 min · 0/3 questions correct
Optimistic Updates and Conflict ResolutionBeginnerApplying a mutation's expected result to the UI before the server confirms it makes an app feel instant — but only if failure and conflict are handled as first-class design questions, not afterthoughts.12 min · 0/3 questions correct
Pagination Strategies: Offset, Cursor, and Infinite ScrollIntermediateOffset pagination is simple and lets you jump to any page — until the underlying data shifts mid-scroll, at which point it has a real correctness bug, not just a rough edge.13 min · 0/3 questions correct
Designing for Offline and Poor ConnectivityBeginnerService Workers are the mechanism that makes offline support technically possible. This lesson is the decision layer above that: what to cache, what to queue, and how to be honest with the user about the connection they actually have.12 min · 0/3 questions correct
Real-Time Updates: Polling, WebSockets, and SSEIntermediateReaching for WebSockets because it sounds the most sophisticated is a common interview misstep — the actual skill is matching the lightest mechanism that satisfies the product's real latency and directionality needs.13 min · 0/3 questions correct
Designing a Notification SystemIntermediateThe track's first full case study: designing an in-app notification center end to end, applying the requirements-scoping framework and the real-time decision tree to one concrete prompt.13 min · 0/3 questions correct
